COAT MAN BURIED AT HIGH HAM
LARGE ATTENDANCE AT FUNERAL SERVICE
The funeral of Mr. Edwin Groves, of Coat, near Martock, who died in the Bristol Royal Infirmary on Tuesday of last week, took place at High Ham, his birthplace, on Saturday afternoon. The late Mr. Groves, who was a son of Mr. Theo. Groves, and a member of an old-established High Ham family, was aged 52 years. He had been ill six weeks, but he endured his suffering with great bravery.
Like his father, he was a keen agriculturist, and his life was spent on the land, He had worked in different parts of the county as a farm bailiff, formerly at Draycott Farm, Limington, and latterly for ten years at Coat for Mr. J. H. Symes. He was highly respected for his integrity and unfailing courtesy. Deep sympathy is felt with the widow and family of two daughters and one son.
CHORAL SERVICE.
A large number of Mr. Groves' associates from far and near attended the funeral, A service at St. Andrew's Church was conducted by the Rector. Rev. E. B. A. Hughes. Psalm 23 and the hymns, " Thy way, not mine, 0 Lord " and " Jesu, Lover of my soul " were sung, and the service ended with the Nunc Dimittis. Mrs. W. H. Gummer (a cousin of the deceased) played the organ.
The family mourners were Mrs. Groves (widow), Miss M. Groves (daughter). Mr. J. Groves, Park (brother). Mrs. A. Coleman, Castle Cary, Mrs. G. Sherrin, High Ham. Mrs. B. Bown, Wearne, and Miss Groves (sisters), Miss S. Thyer (aunt), Mrs. J. Groves (sister-in-law), Messrs. F. Hellier, G. Sherrin. A. Coleman, B. Bown (brothers- in-law ). Norman Bown, Vera Groves. Eunice and Josephine Groves, Dorothy Bown and Desmond Groves (nephews and nieces), Mr. R. Brown, Misses A. and O. Bown, Mr. and Mrs. C. Farthing. Yeovil Marsh (brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, Messrs. G. and T. Groves, E. Thyer and J. Hurd, Mrs. Garland (Castle Cary), and Nurse Hill. Among those unable to attend was deceased's brother, Mr. Arthur Groves, who is now in Australia.

The coffin was of polished elm, with brass fittings, the breastplate being inscribed : "Edwin Groves. fell asleep 26th April. 1938. aged 52 years." Messrs H. Tucker and C. Ware (fellow employees), E. Tapscott and E. Parker were the bearers.
There was a large and beautiful collection of floral tributes. including a bunch of flowers " From Daddy's own garden," sent by his two little children.
