Anecdote / Notes

• Harold started his grocery business in Bridgwater, Somerset, and moved to Thornbury Gloucestershire in 1907. There he bought Crossways Grocery, a store at a rural crossroads just outside the small town.
  The family sailed to Berlin (now Kitchener) Ontario, Canada, and lived there for 2 1/2 years before going to Toronto where they settled permanently. In Toronto his first job was with the first Loblaw's Store to open in Toronto. He later went to work for Cowan's Chocolates which was to be taken over by Rowntrees of England. However, the Great Depression meant he was laid off along with many others and he died shortly afterwards.
