Anecdote / Notes

  • The LDS site includes details of a marriage between Charles and Mary Gadney in Norwich in 1765, together with details of Mary's Birth and Baptism, and details of a daughter Ann (Birth / Baptism, etc., in Norwich). Although I have less details, I have chosen to believe these LDS records are not correct and have therefore recorded different data. Primary reasons for this are that (1) The Banns for the wedding indicate Charles, although only ~25 was a Widower; (2) It is unlikely, in my opinion, he would have gone to Norwich and then back to Culmstock (the Banns for the marriage in Norwich record him as being "of this Parish"); (3) Details for the daughter of Charles and Mary Gadney called Ann, in particular, her year of birth, do not equate with information recorded at the time of Ann's Burial (that is, the Ann that married Charles Tapscott). Although all these could be deemed circumstantial, together they lead me to believe the LDS records are not correct.
